Prepare for a weather rollercoaster in Metro Detroit, where significant snow accumulation and dangerously frigid wind chills are on the horizon! The upcoming week is set to feature an active weather pattern with frequent snowfall expected.
On Sunday, expect predominantly overcast skies with a high temperature reaching only 23 degrees. As night falls, clouds will persist, and we'll witness the onset of snow starting in the evening hours. An accumulation of 1 to 3 inches of snow is anticipated overnight, with temperatures dropping to a chilly low of 17 degrees.
Moving into Monday, the clouds will remain thick as we experience another round of snow. A chance of snow mainly in the morning will transition into snow showers throughout the day, potentially leading to additional accumulation. The high temperature for Monday will only be around 21 degrees, but brace yourself for gusty winds reaching 30 to 35 miles per hour, which will drive wind chill values down to the single digits or even below zero.
As Monday night approaches, the snow showers will begin to taper off, but temperatures will plummet to about 4 degrees, with wind chills potentially dipping to a bone-chilling -10 to -15 degrees.
Tuesday will bring more cloudiness and continued cold, with a high struggling to reach 15 degrees. By Tuesday night, we may see another chance of snow late in the night as temperatures drop to around 8 degrees.
After a brief mix of sunshine and snow on Saturday, clouds have returned, and while the day starts dry, accumulating snow is back in the forecast for Sunday evening into Monday morning.
The next significant snowfall is expected to begin Sunday evening, continuing through the night and into Monday morning, potentially delivering 1 to 3 inches by late morning on Monday. High temperatures will fall into the lower 20s by Sunday afternoon, making way for the snow. After the snow clears out Monday morning, we’ll shift to light snow showers or snow squalls for much of the day, compounded by strong winds that could gust between 30 to 40 miles per hour. This means our wind chill values are going to plunge throughout the day, with more snow accumulation possible from the ongoing showers or squalls.
On Monday, temperatures will barely make it into the mid to upper teens, then drop down to the low single digits overnight into Tuesday. When factoring in the wind, wind chill readings could go as low as -10 to -15 degrees by early Tuesday morning.
As Tuesday unfolds, we should remain dry, with high temperatures only reaching the low to mid-teens before dipping back into the low single digits overnight into Wednesday. Looking ahead to midweek, Wednesday brings no snow chances, although we’ll still keep an eye on the forecast for potential snow toward the end of the week. Temperatures are expected to warm slightly, reaching the mid to upper 20s on Wednesday and Thursday, before falling back into the low 20s by Friday.
